SQL Server Database Developer/Administrator

The SQL Server Developer/Administrator will be responsible for T-SQL query development, performance monitoring/tuning, configuration changes and deployments to offload SQL Server responsibilities from the application development and infrastructure teams. This position will require varied proportions of development and dba activities dependent upon the project and support demands.  If you enjoy wearing many database hats and working in an entrepreneurial environment, this opportunity may be for you.



  • Design and Develop database objects, tables, stored procedures, views, triggers and SSIS packages.
  • Performance tuning of complex T-SQL queries.
  • Schema refinements as necessary to remove redundancy, increase performance and improve data integrity.
  • Use SQL Profiler and other monitoring tools to troubleshoot and resolve performance issues, including blocking and deadlocking issues.
  • Should have a good understanding of SQL Server best practices including storage, indexing and security.
  • Perform SQL Server installations, configurations and migrations.
  • Perform script deployments per change management policies.
  • Some off-hours/flex support will be expected in this role for system maintenance and monitoring activities.
  • Create and maintain system technical documentation.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Relevant Work Experience
  • 7+ Years of SQL Server Experience
  • Experience working as both a SQL Developer and maintaining SQL Server environments
  • Expert in writing SQL Queries including complex Stored Procedures, Functions and CTE’s.
  • Strong desire to improve database performance issues and processes
  • Ability to react in a fast-paced environment and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to understand business processes and how the database schemas can be improved to meet those business requirements.
  • Experience with performance tuning and optimization, native monitoring and troubleshooting tools, and backup/restoration/recovery models.
  • Experience with SSIS packages and SSRS reporting tool.
  • Thorough understanding of security, high availability, disaster recovery, replication/mirroring, failover clustering, and log shipping best practices.
  • Ability to contribute to project planning, scope, and versioning dialogues and documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A team player with a desire to assist everyone on the application development team with their database needs.


Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience within the healthcare industry.
  • Experience working within a highly integrated team comprised of both technical and non-technical members.
  • Experience working independently on projects and tasks with minimal instruction.
  • Solid understanding of industry standard fundamentals including data structures, algorithm design, problem-solving, and complexity analysis.
